Mother’s Big Family Household Cleaning Tips

~~~
Growing up in a very large family, there were fourteen of us living in a 2 bathroom, and 7 room house. As far back as I can remember, our homes were always immaculately clean, tidy and organized. Even today when I think back, I wonder how in the world my mother managed to pull that off, especially since the house was always full of all of us coming and going if you know what I mean.
One thing I remember without fail is how she taught us to follow daily routines. And every one of us had their own jobs assigned to do as far as keeping the household running. From the oldest to the youngest, we were trained and encouraged to always clean up behind ourselves. For example, all of my older sisters had something they were responsible for doing, for instance, one was in charge of the laundry and the other cooking dinner and the other seeing that the younger ones got their baths at night and etcetera, etcetera.
So, we had bedtime routines and schedules. Cleaning schedules, play schedules, cooking schedules, and homework schedules. For instance, our bedtime schedules were to get up early and go to bed early. All the young kids were always tucked in bed by 8pm- 8:30pm, Sunday through Thursday, and by 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, the older ones were allowed to stay up a little later but not that much later.
Then a light bulb went off in my head. I realize that’s how my mother did it. She had everyone on board with her plan and that’s how it worked. There was no one person doing everything and she wasn’t trying to do everything either. Every one of us had their job’s to do and everyone was on board and followed and agreed to let her guide us. So one of my mother’s household cleaning tips was to not allow any and everything to be done all over the house. Tip #1.
We had certain rooms for certain activities. For instance…..
We had a recreation room. And so we weren’t allowed to play anywhere and everywhere else in the house. In that room was every toy and game imaginable. So that is one of the ways the rest of the house was kept so clean and organized. We didn’t have our toys in our bedrooms or the living room nor in the kitchen. Even our recreation room was kept tidy and organized. At night when we were done playing we had to put all of our toys away.
Also, we had a homework room/TV room. All study and homework were done in this room and only after homework was done were we allowed to sit and watch TV. So although you may not be able to or want to assign one room for certain things to be done in it. I think having sections of a room or space set aside might work towards the exact same means.
So the fact that certain rooms/spaces were assigned places to do things. I liked that and so that is one way in which the entire house was kept clean and tidy. So this is tip number one. See you next time with more of mother’s tips.
I hope your day is super amazing!
