The Last Few Things We Do Before It’s Lights Out: Bed Time Routines

~~~
My husband and I work together to try to make the house a nice and pleasant place to be in the mornings. So we have a few things we like to do just before bedtime and most of it only takes us about five minutes to do each one of them. (Except for the number 13.) And so you would be surprised at how taking the time to do those little things before bedtime can mean so much when you start your day.
1. Walk thru the house to check for tidiness.
(This we do so the house is super neat in the mornings and so we put things back in their places, like for instance we might put a book back on the book shelf and a magazine back in the magazine rack, then gather up any cups or snack trays into the sink to be washed.)
2. Oil the kitchen sink with lavender scented baby oil and put a pretty porcelain vase full of flowers in the sink and in the fridge and set up the table for breakfast or brunch the next day.
(This is something I like to get done religiously because I absolutely do love stepping into clean a pretty, neat and clean kitchen in the mornings. So there is no dishes left overnight in the sink for us. I like to use the lavender scented baby oil to make the sink smell good and for it to have a pretty shine along with setting pretty things in it just for overnight. Also I like it when there is fresh towels laid out on the sink so I make sure that all dish towels and dish cloths used that day is put in the washing machine to get washed first thing the next day along with our bath towels and wash cloths and so I like to set out fresh clean dish towels and dish cloths every night. One day I plan to stitch the days of the week on each dish towel. And the idea of putting fake or fresh flowers in a vase in the middle of the sink and a vase in the fridge is amazing. It makes the kitchen so cheerful and it smells super nice as it’s so pleasant to the eyes first thing in the morning. The sight of flowers in those two places brings a pleasant smile to our faces and helps set the mood for the beginning of the day. So before getting our hot tea, orange juice or coffee, eggs, hot or cold cereal or bagels it helps us love our morning environment.)
3. Set out any frozen meats or frozen precooked meals for dinner in a pan on top of the deep freezer to defrost overnight. (Thawing out the raw meats or precooked meals makes it much easier for us to get dinner started early as possible so we are not eating anything so late at night.)
4. Vacuum the bedrooms and bathrooms with the cordless vac, wipe down mirrors, sink and toilet seat with Clorox wipes and mirror spray.
(It’s important for us that we start our next day in a clean fresh smelling bathroom. I like it to be fresh smelling and orderly for us for when we use the bathroom in the middle of the night and for in the mornings before getting into the shower. It eliminates having so much to do in the mornings. Also I am so sensitive when it comes to any bad odors at night and so it’s important the bathroom is fresh smelling for me when I get up at night and for in the mornings when we rise. And so I like to put the wash cloths and towels into the washing machine as well and set out fresh towels and wash cloths for the next day.)
5. Turn on all the salt lamps in each room throughout the house.
(Those salt lamps are so amazing, relaxing and calming to the mind, heart and spirit. They help us wind down and get sleepy.)
6. Empty all garbage cans to go to the outdoors garbage bin. (I prefer that all garbage is out of the house right after dinner. I find even those scented garbage bags do not hold down trash can odors. Then we check on the scented plug ins and turn the dials down to the lowest levels at night. We have the lavender scents in the bedrooms and the citrus or febreze scents in the rest of the rooms of the house.)
7. Bring a bottle of Evian Spring Water to my bedside and pull down the bed sheets and close the curtains (We seem to get thirsty at night and no one wants to go into the kitchen for water and also pulling down the sheets signals it time to wind down.)
~~~

8. Drink one cup of Oolong tea with some lemon juice and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. I been trying to have this Weight loss tea called “Oolong Wulong Slimming Tea” as I heard somewhere that this tea helps with weight loss a great deal and there are rumors that it can help you lose anywhere up to 5 to 10 pounds a month by just drinking it. So I figured why not give it a go. I add in bit of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and a teaspoon of blue agave. I tell you I can use all the help I can get these days. LOL! I will be sure to post about it if it works for me or not.

9. Use dental floss, brush my teeth (for at least 2 minutes) then use my water pik.

(I think as we get older we really need to take good care of our teeth and so double flossing and brushing really does help. I have created a herbal rinse to go into the water tray in the water pik to rinse clean our teeth and you’d be surprised what the water pik washes away between the teeth and massages the gums so well. I also like that we use an anti plaque pre-rinse at least every other day as well. All of this I think is so important for our teeth to reduce cavities from forming in the first place so that dental costs are reduced drastically.)

10. Lightly oil and brush my hair with 100 stokes. (Every Sunday like clock work I like to deep condition my hair with various types of conditioners, like “Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Mask” or “Amika Nourishing Mask” that I leave in my hair all day sometimes and then I’ll put on my electric heat cap that I keep on for at least one hour and then I use a special anti hair thinning shampoo to wash out the conditioner. I know most people wash their hair first then condition but I do the reverse because I leave the conditioner in and I use a spray bottle filled with “Evian Spring Water” and massage in the conditioner to leave in all day and plus it seems to work better for my hair when I do it this way as I think my hair loves it this way. I also love applying all types of sweet smelling oils like argan oil, nettle oil, rosemary oil and other herbal sweet scented oils on my scalp and hair to help it smell nice longer, grow, feel soft and stay clean. So this night time routine of using my hair brush helps with bringing circulation to the scalp and keeps my hair in the best of shape.)

11. Wash my face, then put on shay butter with a few drops of marula oil every night and also add rose hips oil 3 times a week at night. (I keep it simple when it comes to my face and neck. I use simple products so my skin looks lovely whether I wear make up or not.)

12. Oil and massage my clean feet, legs and ankles. (My feet swell up so easy and so I like to take care of them with a gentle massage at night before bed and so I’ll watch a few YouTube videos I enjoy as I do this.)

13. Listen to the audible bible for one hour or so. Then turn on my meditation things like candle burning or fire place videos with relaxing sounds like running water, soft music or the sound of a crackling fire place, etc.

So I tell you that doing these types of things really do aid in us getting a sound sleep because a lot of the time for me my pain level keeps me up at night more often then I’d like to be and so I like to try practically everything under the sun to help keep my mind, body and spirit calm and relaxed in the evenings.
